The wear schedule with aligners is significantly important to influence treatment time and results.

To determine patients wear schedule the first thing to take in consideration is how much correction is needed.

Ideally patient have to wear aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day to achieve optimum result in the least amount of time.

You can see the progress through each aligner set. The number of aligner trays varies for each patient.

Each aligner needs to be worn for 14 days.

Wear your aligners 22 hours every day:

Make sure you wear aligners enough time at least 22 hours daily minimising the time you take off the aligners for eating, drinking and brushing so the teeth move into their proper position.

If you don’t follow the wear schedule the treatment plan will take longer period to obtain the results and will greatly impact the outcome which will not give you the desired results in the given period.

Treatment with aligners you need to set timer as reminder for every 15 days which will remind you to change the aligner.

  • Track your meal times:

You need to track your meal timings as there are only 2 hours in total to eat each day.

If you keep the aligners out for hours at a time the progress in treatment will slow down.

  • Switch to your new aligner set at night:

Some patients find some discomfort when they switch sets of aligners first time, good idea will be to switch to new aligner set at night.

So that you can sleep taking an over the counter painkiller medication before bed which works well.

  • Keep a backup set of aligners:

As the aligners are removable patients do tend to lose the aligner trays.

In such case you have to wear the previous set of aligners till you get the new replacement set of aligners.

  • Allow time for your teeth to adjust:

Do remember your teeth will move incrementally with every set of aligners. Though there are less adjustments in aligners as compared to traditional braces like brackets and wires still your teeth will need a period of adjustments for few days.

Some soreness is normal but once your mouth adjusts with the aligners you should be back to normal.

  • Keep aligners in safe place:

When you take your aligners while eating, drinking or brushing you have to take care that you keep the aligner’s safe place such as aligner plastic storage box.

This will prevent them from getting lost or from getting damaged.

  • Clean the aligners:

After you eat and before you put yours aligners clean them thoroughly as aligners are clear and transparent they can show discolouration so you need to maintain the cleanliness of your aligners.
